Retreats: Explore What’s Next in Your Third Half

At Third Half Advisors, we understand that transitioning out of a long and successful career is both exciting and daunting. Whether you’re stepping down from a leadership role, recently retired and feeling restless, or happily enjoying a portfolio life, but seeking a deeper purpose, our retreats are designed to help you embrace this pivotal moment with confidence, clarity, and connection.

Our Milestone Retreats provide the structure and inspiration to help you plan your next chapter. Based on a tested curriculum that blends expert instruction, facilitated small-group work, and professional coaching, our retreats guide you through an exploration of where you are now and where you hope to go. Together with your retreat peers, you’ll use strengths-based methods and life-design techniques to map out meaningful next steps.

Some participants come to us ready to chart a detailed course forward. Others simply want to begin thinking more purposefully about what this exciting phase of life could hold. Wherever you find yourself, our retreats will meet you there.

The Retreats

We offer two types of retreats to best serve our community:

  • Third Half Member Retreats: Exclusively for members of the Third Half community, these retreats provide a space to connect with like-minded professionals who are navigating similar transitions. Build lasting relationships, gain insights, and find renewed purpose among peers who "get it."

  • Affinity Partner Retreats: We also collaborate with select affinity partners – organizations, clubs, and professional networks – to offer customized retreats tailored to their members’ unique needs. These partnerships allow us to extend the transformative power of our Milestone retreats to specialized groups, creating even deeper resonance and impact.

Are You Ready to Explore Your Third Half?

Are you a late-career professional wondering “What’s next?” Maybe you’ve been enjoying retirement but find yourself seeking more purpose and fulfillment. Perhaps you’re eager to apply your accumulated wisdom and talents in new ways. Or maybe you’re looking for a community to explore this exciting phase of life with - together.

Our retreats are designed to help you:

  • Reflect on where life finds you now – in your mind, heart, and surroundings.

  • Identify your hopes and ambitions for this next chapter.

  • Create a plan to move forward with confidence and clarity.

The topics we explore are vast, the paths forward are many. What does your Third Half hold? Join us on a retreat and let us help you find out.

  • Is there a minimum (or maximum) age to participate in a THA retreat?
There is no minimum or maximum age to attend! We’ve had participants in their 40’s helping those in their 70’s achieve insights, and vice versa. The important thing is that all participants come motivated to explore their life transitions together, drawing on their wide variety of life experiences and wisdom.
  • What is the recommended dress code?
Dress comfortably! Some participants choose to dress up a bit for dinners, while others appreciate that casual is welcome 100% of the time. Nature settings can help clear the mind and inspire fresh ideas. When possible, and weather permitting, we may conduct portions of the retreat outdoors. Please bring appropriate clothing to be comfortable sitting or walking outside, and consider carrying layers that will allow you to move from indoors to outdoors with ease. In addition, we know that movement can help refresh the mind and spirit. We have been known to offer some stretching and movement during breaks, so - as we said - dress comfortably!
  • Can my partner and I participate in a retreat together?
Third Half transitions touch all aspects of life, affecting life partners and other significant relationships. Couples have found that exploring this together can be enriching and powerful, in addition to a lot of fun!
  • What can I expect from a retreat?
Third Half Advisors retreats are immersive, growth-oriented experiences! Come prepared to be internally curious, to think deeply and creatively, and to be part of a warm community of people on a growth journey together. You can expect to leave with greater awareness of yourself and your situation, and a plan for approaching the transition or change goal that you’re seeking. We create the space for you to step away from the distractions of everyday life, focus on yourself, and journey through a curriculum proven to deliver insights, inspiration, and outcomes. We use a strengths-based approach blended with problem-solving methodology called Design Thinking to help you clearly articulate the change you want to make, expand beyond your current perceived options, and commit to a series of small, actionable steps you can begin immediately. This process takes place in carefully selected, nature-based settings to provide the most conducive environment for learning and growth.
  • What does a retreat expect from me?
The retreat involves a mix of personal work, exercises in small groups, and time with an experienced coach. We create a community of individuals who are each striving to optimize their post-career journeys. Much of the power of our work together comes from the sharing and input you provide to each other. We will ask you to share your goals and other matters of personal importance. We will help you explore your motivations and question your assumptions. And we will ask you to open your mind to new ideas, new perspectives, and new possibilities.
  • What can I do to prepare for this retreat?
Spend some time thinking carefully about what is motivating you to participate. Where are you on your Third Half transition? What aspects of your life are most important to you right now? What is going well? What are you hoping to change? Are you considering an important life decision, and if so, what kind of decision? These questions can serve as your launching point when we begin our time together. Some retreats require prerequisite activities, and you will be told in advance about any of those. In addition, and depending on the type of retreat, we may provide optional readings that you can explore before arriving.
  • What’s the difference between THA Signature retreats and THA Affinity retreat?

  • What is coaching?
Coaching is the partnering with a professional to journey towards finding your answer for a question or problem in your life. Think of a coach as a thought partner who asks deep questions to prompt curiosity and help you look at previously unexplored corners of the heart and mind for your answer.
  • What if I feel uncomfortable sharing personal information with strangers?
An open and trusting state of mind affords you the best chance of realizing the potential of this retreat. We have found that retreat participants quickly create a supportive community of change…and don’t remain strangers for long! Commitment to confidentiality is important to establishing trust, and participants are required to agree to hold confidential personal details they hear about other people. Our coaches are certified by the International Coaching Federation and uphold the highest professional coaching ethics. That said, please know that we will never ask you to share anything you are not comfortable sharing.
